Proposed Twin Hills borefield
Gindalbie Metals (Gindalbie), in joint venture with Ansteel Group, is developing the Karara Iron Ore Project in the Mid West of Western Australia.
The management company, Karara Mining Limited (KML), is pursuing approvals for the Project, including water licencing requirements, in order to secure the necessary water supplies for mining and processing at Karara.
Gindalbie actively engage, communicate and consult with the community and other interested parties in relation to the Project and continues to facilitate community forums to provide opportunities for stakeholder feedback.
KML has submitted an application to the Department of Water (DoW) to establish a borefield (for up to ten production bores and three monitoring bores) in the Twin Hills Groundwater Sub-Area of the Yarragadee aquifer (northwest of Mingenew township). The application is for supply for 6.6 gigalitres per year of water for mining and processing purposes at Karara.
Gindalbie and DoW are currently seeking community comment on this application to ensure that local community and stakeholder interests are considered in the evaluation of the application.
Community Workshop
A community information session was held on Tuesday 24 June 2008 at the Mingenew Town Hall, Victoria Street, Mingenew. The meeting was held to provide the community with information on the application and to provide a forum for queries and comment.
Gindalbie also briefed interested local shires in the area.
Gindalbie would like to extend their thanks to all community members and stakeholders who attended the session. If you were unable to come along, but would like to discuss the project, please feel free to contact the project team on the details provided.
Public Comment
People who are interested in the application may make a written submission by 31 July 2008 (please note that this has been extended as the result of requests at the Community Information Session) to the Department of Water, PO Box 73 Geraldton WA 6531, quoting ref. RF701.
DoW has asked that if you object to the proposal, you must specify what actions, if any, would overcome your objections.
General queries regarding the application and process can be directed to Natalie Lauritsen at the Department of Water on (08) 9965 7400.
