Employment and Local Business

Gindalbie’s key development in the Mid West region of Western Australia is the Karara Iron Ore Project. With an expected mine life of more than 30 years and a multi-billion dollar investment in the Project, Gindalbie will be a major employer and partner to communities in the Mid West for many years to come.

Gindalbie’s work on the Project will bring important social, economic and environmental benefits to the region including:

  • Improved infrastructure and facilities
  • Training programs to provide skills development
  • New business opportunities for local businesses
  • Sponsorships and partnerships
  • Dedicated environmental research, rehabilitation and sustainability initiatives

The region will benefit from the creation of 1500 construction jobs initially and approximately 250 permanent roles and 300 contractor positions during operations. We believe our future in the region is also the local community’s future – we invite you to join us and share in the rewards.

Local Preference Policy

To ensure the continued growth and sustainability of local communities, Gindalbie will seek to ‘buy local’ and employ local community members where ever possible.

We are committed to providing full, fair and reasonable opportunities to local business services and suppliers, and community members will monitor the uptake of local businesses and local employment.

Gindalbie will ensure the provision of timely information in respect of:

  • employment opportunities
  • award tenders and contract information.  Local businesses are encouraged to approach contractors for sub-sections of larger contracts.
  • project progress updates
  • availability of tenders
  • tender package information

Gindalbie will also encourage both contractors and sub-contractors to use local businesses and employ local community members.  We encourage local businesses to register on their local Shire’s Business Service Directory.

Priority will be given to employing Mid West community members, followed by the remainder of WA, other States of mainland Australia and finally international interests.
