Community Investment

Gindalbie will build strong relationships with local stakeholders through a structured Community Investment Program that contributes to a sustainable community. As an example, in August 2009 we held a series of Information Forums in Morawa, Mingenew and Perenjori to discuss potential ideas for community investment projects as part of the Karara Iron Ore Project.

Gindalbie is committed to open communication with community members and elected Shire representatives. Going forward, similar community forums will be hosted to encourage community members to engage with Gindalbie’s Community Investment Program.

With an expected life of more than 30 years, the Karara Iron Ore Project will fund significant community investment projects over the Project’s lifetime that will assist in the long-term sustainability of Perenjori, Morawa, Mingenew, Mullewa and Geraldton.

Gindalbie’s Community Investment activities will:

  • meet the real needs of the Mid West communities
  • provide stakeholders with clear funding guidelines to manage expectations
  • be transparent and effectively administered
  • be within the pre-allocated budgets in-line with the profitability of the company
  • be flexible to suit community needs as required
  • focus on long-term capacity building initiatives
  • allocate funds effectively and attract value-add contributions from partnering with third parties
  • involve Gindalbie and local employees

Examples of areas that Gindalbie will invest in include:

  • health and well-being
  • education and development
  • sport and recreation
  • supporting indigenous communities
  • aiding local businesses
  • preserving heritage and history

Gindalbie will invest in the community in three ways:

  • one off capital payments to projects provided that they create a sustainable future in the community
  • sponsorship of sports teams, heritage, arts and culture projects
  • recurrent funding for the life of the Project, for example the maintenance of the local sports field
